I love the idea behind Apple TV : ) Take all of the great content that’s trapped on your computer and magically transport it into your living room. Sure you can also stream Netflix content and rent / purchase content from the iTunes store, but those are extra features…not selling points.
In contrast, Google TV is all extra features and no clear selling point. It integrates with other services that you already use (including cable). Sure it allows you to stream web video from almost any site (a clear advantage over the AppleTV), but it doesn’t seem to fit the needs of a user like me that already has the content they want.
In terms of browsing the web and running apps, my iPad provides a much richer and more interactive experience than the Google TV ever will. Apps on my TV doesn’t necessarily sound like a bad idea, but for me an iPad & Apple TV combination wins over any features that Google is bringing to the table. And the fact that the two of them seamlessly integrate with each other just makes the combination that much sweeter : )
